The Corporation Part 6.

Chapter 6

Charlie and I ran through a dense forest we had come upon a couple hours ago on the outskirts of the city. It was painful to be honest, because even though I was able to dodge the majority of the low branches, a couple were still able to scratch my face and arms, causing small trickles of blood to flow done my skin. I really wanted to stop and rest, but I knew we couldn’t stop now, they were looking for us, and there was no way I would let them take Charlie away from me again, I thought to myself as I gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

“Eric, let’s stop, I’m tired” pleaded Charlie with exhaustion.
“We can’t Charlie, I’m sorry, but I only need you to run a bit more, ok” I replied as I jumped over a fairly large branch on the ground.
But as soon as my foot touched the ground, I was dragged down to the ground, landing with a thud that sent painful shivers through my body.
I sat up quickly and looked back, Charlie was laying on the ground, but what worried me was the fact that he had loosened his grip on my hand, and was no longer moving.
I crawled over next to him and turned him over.
“Charlie, Charlie…wake up…please wake up…!” I screamed desperately as I tried to check his vital signs quickly.
Everything seemed to be ok, except for the fact that his skin was getting pale and cold, and then, as I was passing my hand over his shirt, I noticed that it was covered in fresh blood.
I ripped open his shirt, and noticed the wound on the left side of his chest. I couldn’t believe he had been bleeding out all this time, and without saying a single word about his injury.
I placed my arms under his body and lifted him up, I wasn’t going to let the person I loved die in front of me this way.

30 minutes later…
I was beyond exhausted, my could feel how by knees were starting buckle, and my arms were starting to give away, but I was just a couple steps away from a small house next to a crystal blue lake.
Once I reached the door, I kicked at it 3 times, and before anyone could come to the door I fell to my knees, and eventually fell back, with Charlie still in my arms.

“Oh my god, are you two ok?” asked a woman worried after she had opened the door.
“Please…take him to a hospital” I pleaded before falling unconscious.

As I opened my eyes and adjusted to the lighting of the room I was in, I noticed there was a small boy staring at me from across the room. He was probably about 10 years old, his dark blonde hair was combed back, and his honey colored eyes were fixated on him.

“Are you feeling better?” asked the boy shyly.
“Yes” I answered. “But how his my friend?” I asked as I sat up.
“He’s ok, my mom took him to the hospital” answered the boy.
“I’m Eric, what’s your name?” I asked the boy in order to somewhat break the awkward tension in the room.
“My name’s Chris” answered the boy.
“Hey, there’s no need to by shy ok, how about we play a board game or something?” I asked as I stood up.
“Sure!” said the boy with a large smile.
