Pru and her Knickers

Hi, my name is Pru (or Prudence to give me my Sunday name) though I use a totally different name when I’m acting. I was recently reacquainted with some former work colleagues with whom I’d spent several weeks in the 1960s working on a couple of well known films. The films featured a lot of us girl actors cavorting around in school uniforms consisting of gymslip, white blouse and tie, black stockings and suspenders and navy blue school knickers. To be honest we all had quite a bit of fun together at the time and it was lovely to meet up with Wendy, Mary and Emma again and chat about former times. In particular I recalled an end-of-production party which became a rather raucous get-together after the main party had finished and involved a few us getting together with some crew and cast members and which was extremely exciting experience for all. Although they didn’t go into details the looks on their faces (particularly on Wendy’s!) seem to indicate something very special in their lives. And so it was to me too.

In the early 1980s I won a role in a film that involved a certain amount of, implied, sexual interaction in bed. In that era it wasn’t anything like as graphic as sex on film is these days but I was to be in bed with a fellow actor with both of us being, supposedly, ‘nude’. I was topless but my breasts wouldn’t be seen properly on film whereas Mike was to be completely naked because towards the end of the scene his back and the top of his buttocks would be seen. It was a closed set with a minimal amount of crew. Both Mike and I appeared on set in dressing gowns with me having put on a pair of my old navy blue school knickers (which I’d saved from the 1960s’ films). It was a tip I’d been given by a very well-known film actress who told me she always wore a pair for her ‘sex’ scenes because they made her feel ‘safe’ and would be a turn-off to whoever you were acting with. I took her advice readily. When the director was ready he asked Mike to get into the bed first which he did, discarding his dressing gown once he was in. I wasn’t too inhibited in those days and took off my dressing gown, exposing my breasts and knickers, and also got into bed. The scene was supposed to be set after we’d had a passionate sex session and we were ‘relaxing’ after our ‘lovemaking’ entwined in each other arms. So, naturally we got ready to cuddle up together when Mike whispered, ‘Sorry, Pru!’.
