This is a true story.

My junior year of high school, I volunteered to be a camp counselor for sixth grade boys in my school district. For many years, all the sixth graders were sent off to camp for educational purposes. They had juniors and seniors in our districts only high school attend as camp counselors. Basically, our job was to be with the students when there was no instruction and to sleep with them at night and to make sure that no one caused any trouble. This meant we had a lot of free time during the day when the students were off doing various activities. Our first full day at camp started out much as you would expect. We got out of bed at 7:00 AM, got dressed and headed off to breakfast. After eating, the senior camp counselor took to the stage to explain the rules and our responsibilities. After the hour long lecture, we were given free time until the students arrived around noon. I went to the cabin I was assigned to, unpacked my stuff and then headed out to walk the grounds and see how much had changed since my sixth grade class had attended five years earlier.

I barely got out of my cabin when I heard music and laughing coming from the bathroom about two hundred feet from where I was staying. Naturally, I went in to see what was going on. I was shocked to see that all the other male camp counselors from my school were naked and in the shower. I am sure my mouth dropped open. In my school, we were not required to shower after gym class so I had never seen any of my classmates naked before. After the initial shock wore off, I said what’s going on? No one saw me enter so they were a little shocked to see me standing there. Then Doug, one of the football players and one of the few jock friends I had told me to get undressed and join them. I was extremely nervous as I had never showered with anyone before.

One of them asked why I wasn’t here earlier and I told him that I didn’t know we were getting together in the shower; I was walking by and heard all the noise. They apologized for not telling me. We stayed in the showers for about thirty minutes then decided it was time to get out. We turned off the showers and grabbed our towels. Since I didn’t know about this little party, I did not have a towel with me. So after Tim dried himself, he gave me his towel to use. Then we got dressed and just kind of hung out until the students arrived.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. After the students arrived, they were assigned to their respective counselor, grabbed their stuff and headed off to their cabins to get unpacked. That evening at about 7:00, it was time to get everyone into the showers and get ready for bed as lights out was at 8:30.

As my group arrived at the shower house, I was stunned to see how many of these young boys were actually naked. The rules said that they had to shower nightly but could wear their swim trunks so as not to be embarrassed. Still, about 40% of the boys were completely naked.
