Daddy’s a Cowboy

The last time i had seen my father, i was was 6 years old being pulled out of my family forever. My mother had taken up drinking after grandma passed. My father less
than honorable in the states eyes, wasn’t a candidate to get custody of me. I asked him “Daddy are you a cowboy?”
He responded, “yes babygirl.” Then he gave me butterfly kisses.

Now here i was again, about to meet him again. Memories flooded me on the way to the house he was staying at with his friend. He had left his wife to come live near me again.

As we pulled into the driveway my hands shook. I had worn my tightest jean and the lowcut shirt I had just picked up yesterday. I had done my make-up and hair. I was more than ready to remind Daddy of how much i loved him.

I said goodbye to my mother who i had just reconnected with. Still being a minor, i had found her online. With less than caring foster parents, my new step dad had gained guardianship of me. I was back in my family. I ran to the for and rang the bell as she pulled away. Suddenly something warm in me blossomed. Daddy’s friend Marty opened the door and i smiled. “Hi, is Ed here?” The friend moved aside and let me in pointing to the living room.
