Book Club and a Walk in the Park
The sun kissed his face as he walked towards the entrance and a light breeze was cool against his freshly cut hair. Clif loved these days. It was their weekly book club, and todays was especially an exciting topic. Yuen has always made great recommendations for their book clubs and typically complimented Clif’s recommendations. They were learning, teaching, and growing well. In face their outlook on life changed dramatically over the last few months because of the daily habits established over several months.
Today was special though. Clif and Yuen were talking earlier in the week about her out and abouts when she had mentioned wearing a dress. Clif never had never seen Yuen in a dress (working at their construction company this would be hard) which had caught him a bit off guard. Sheepishly during their catching up, he had asked Yuen if she could wear a dress at their next book club. Being agreeable, with a catch, she too wanted him to dress up a bit.
Putting on his torn jeans, a black collar shirt, decent enough shoes, and a suede jacket to bring the ensemble together, he spiked his hair a bit to spice up his appearance. He was excited to see Yun today and if he is lucky enough, spend the better part of the day with her. Between the books, the walks, and their conversations he could never get enough of her thoughts and often would lead to losing sight of time. That never mattered.
Walking to the bottom of the stairs and to their usual spot he saw her. Each stride took longer than the one before as time was slowing just a bit. Her legs crossed under that pastel green dress, her attention focused on the notes in her booklet, hair pulled back, and those cute wedges that bring it all together. He was in a trance. She looked up with her smile and the butterflies hit his stomach without him realizing it.
Compliments passed back and forth, smiles filled the air, and the amount of giggles would make you think you were at a teenager’s sleepover talking about the hottest guy on Teen Vogue. This was a nice day.
Book club went off without a hitch, and the exchange of ideas fueled more conversation about home, family, work, and life in general. And then they heard it. The salsa dance. The library was closing in thirty minutes. Again, now in fifteen minutes. And last call, time to pack up and go.
This time of the say was both of their favorites. A great book club, with great conversations, growth that is hard to anticipate, and to end the day a nice walk in the park. Sometimes followed with conversation, not too deep or too light, and most importantly being together. Words didn’t matter all that much as their company.
