12. Fun After Work

I was sound asleep in my aft cabin when I became aware of someone clamoring aboard, bumping and thumping with lots of “SHHHHH! You’ll wake him! SSSHHHHH!” Coming from a deep sleep, it took me a moment to realize that it was Pam and Christy coming home from work. It was nearly 3 a.m.

I crawled out of bed to greet them. When I stepped into the main salon, Christy nearly exploded. In one excited run-on jumble she blurted out “Oh my God Sailor it was so awesome I got a hundred fifty in tips and three guys numbers and met so many nice people and I can’t wait to go back and it’s all because of you!” She leaped at me flinging her arms around my neck.

I rubbed my sleepy eyes and held up my hands. “Hold on, there, princess. Hold on. Slow down. Give it to me slowly.” Pam, herself excited but showing more restraint, broke in.

“Sailor, it was great. Hard work and my feet are killing me, but I think this’ll work out just fine. I’m exhausted and I’ll give you all the details later, but we may have a place to stay. One of the other servers has a lead for us. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow … uh, today actually!” She stepped over to me and planted a big, wet kiss on my cheek, then disappeared into her cabin.

I yawned and turned to go back to bed. Christy followed me like a puppy. I climbed back in bed and Christy sat on the edge. “Sailor, it’s was so amazing. And I got paid ! Can you believe it? People gave me money just for bringing them food and drinks. And I met sooo many hot guys. It’s all too good to be true! And it wouldn’t have happened without you. You’re so awesome.
